The string is made to sound by the LH finger. Proper slur technique involves snapping the finger on or off the string. I have a 12 string guitar and it is much harder to do a really effective HO or PO. For a trill, do the 2 techniques repeatedly.Ī 6 string guitar is easier, in general, to do all this, no because of sustain, but because the single string requires less effort to do this. On a PO, snap the fiinger down and into the fingerboard and the next string, actually in effect plucking the string with the left finger. For the HO, snap the finger down into the string, the forcefull contact with the fret is what makes the sound. This is what allows heavy metal "shredders and the like play extended passages with only tapping. It is not just a matter of fretting the 2nd note while the sustain maintains the sound. It is suggested that these are easier on the guitar because of the sustain. In the above referenced thread, there is IMHO little info on actual technique and some of that is based on an incorrect idea of how slurs, AKA hammeron and pulloff. More of a guitarist, but recently re-started on mando after many years.
